Black Spider Monkey

Hey guys and gals,

This post is going to be about the endangered Black Spider Monkey. Black Spider Monkeys are found in eastern South America. In the primate family, they are on the smaller side being only 16-24 inches in height and length (without the tail). Their weight can vary from 15-19 pounds, and usually, the monkeys’ fur is completely black but the color of the face can vary. The Black Spider Monkey is very important as it plays a key role in the tropical rainforest ecosystem. For seed dispersal, it is necessary to keep these monkeys around or else it may be tough for the rainforest to function as well as it used to. The reason that the number of Black Spider Monkeys has decreased is because habitat destruction of tropical rainforests and poaching are large threats to them. The approximate number of these monkeys left in the world is only 2,000, but of course the number fluctuates every day.

To help out these beautiful and innocent creatures, visit their World Wild Life page and click on the “How You Can Help” tab to make a difference.

Well that’s a wrap, so until next time,
SVR
